How to cancel Microsoft 365

Microsoft’s help: for personal Microsoft 365 billed by Microsoft, sign in at account.microsoft.com, open Services & subscriptions, choose your Microsoft 365 subscription, then Cancel and follow the confirmation screens. Save the confirmation. If you bought through the Microsoft Store on a different path, or through Apple, cancel in that store instead. Work or school Microsoft 365 is controlled by the organization’s admin—you cannot cancel a tenant subscription from a personal account page. After personal cancel, OneDrive storage can drop to the free quota when the paid period ends; export or move files that would exceed the free limit.

Difficulty: Online — Microsoft account or the store that bills you. Policies change. This is the path that usually works, not a substitute for your contract or the merchant’s current account screens.

  1. 01Personal, Microsoft-billed: account.microsoft.com → Services & subscriptions → Microsoft 365 → Cancel. Confirm and save the confirmation screen/email.
  2. 02Microsoft Store billed (when shown separately): cancel from the Store’s subscription management for that purchase.
  3. 03Apple billed: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Microsoft 365 → Cancel Subscription.
  4. 04Work or school: contact your admin / IT. Only they can change tenant licensing.
  5. 05Before paid storage ends, download or move OneDrive files you need so you stay under the free quota.

Fees and traps

  • OneDrive: paid storage drops after cancel when the benefit ends. Files above the free limit can become read-only or subject to Microsoft’s over-quota rules—export first.
  • Access to desktop apps usually continues until the end of the paid term. Check the confirmation screen for the end date—do not invent a fee amount.
  • Wrong account: subscriptions only appear on the Microsoft account that purchased them.
  • Recurring billing vs one-time product key: only recurring subscriptions renew; check which you bought.

What happens to OneDrive?

When paid storage ends you fall back to free storage. Move or delete files so you fit the free quota.

I paid through Apple. Where do I cancel?

Apple Subscriptions on the Apple Account that was charged—not only account.microsoft.com.
